Recently, I had the good fortune to attend a training program on ETAP, conducted by Mr. P Nandakumar, a reputed freelance consultant and trainer of ETAP. The software is a superb tool for analyzing power systems of any complexity, but often it throws some counter-intuitive errors, which is difficult to analyze for the novice. This post is a collection of such common errors and the easiest solutions to them.
1. 1. Error 2002 – The system has no energized branches
This is a common error while using ETAP for the first time, blocking out all calculations. Even though you might’ve added many elements to the layout, ETAP requires some elements, like a cable, line or transformer which has a non-zero impedance value. A circuit breaker helps to add more interconnected branches, but won’t solve the issue. If a transformer cannot be included in your diagram, you have to add a new bus and connect it using a short cable (say, 25 sq.mm, 50 m length) as shown below. This may be labeled dummy, if you like, and won’t affect the calculations in any way. This simple trick will save you from unnecessary hold up (about 1 hour, in my case!!)
Thank You Sir

Hi sir, I'm a graduating student and currently having my thesis study using ETAP. I just want to know to solve cable overload in a specific system in etap. and also undervoltage problem. Thank you
DeleteI have got an error in ETAP as " Harmonic calculation is aborted due fundamental load flow divergence "But I can run my load flow analysis. So can u help me out with dis
ReplyDeleteShalini, I don't have the answer at present. I will try.
DeleteEven I am facing the same problem, please help me with this
Deletedivergence means the calculation not lead to one value. It may be caused by a loop in your system. try to separate your network and try again one by one
Deletetry to separate your network, and slowly merge it again by continously simulate the program
Deletei have an error " load flow calculaions diverged"
ReplyDeleteplease guide me how to resolve this issue
We have the same problem in our graduation project ,so ,pls, if you solved this problem or found out why this error appear , could you ,pls, tell me .
ReplyDeleteon applying svc and configuring it ,after load flow it gives the error "load flow did not converge in the specified maximum no. opf iterations" plz help me

I actually find out where was the problem :
ReplyDelete(1)Try to "out or service" all loads and then start reconnecting them one by one and try each time .
(2)Try to increase no.of iterations from load flow study case.
(3)Make sure that you don't have infinite bus and if you have more than one infinite bus then you should have more swing generators so try to make all you generators swing and then try after that try to change generators to voltage controlled type and see in the loaf flow report , does it work or not ?
Good luck
Excellent finding and thank you very much for the detailed comment.
DeleteHi it works!!! disconec loads "out of service" it! and then again in service, works good , but at the end one of those loads i couldnot reconect id. regards
Deletewhen running transient analysis message is coming " Voltage is exceeding than 2000% and problems with data files"
ReplyDeleteEven all other modules working properly?
Please help me

Did you find solution to this? I'm getting the same error when i do TS analysis on IEEE9 bus system...

Hi Anurag,
DeleteDid you ever resolve this issue? I am currently experiencing the same issue with ETAP 12.0.0 and wondered if you had a solution to this problem.

Help with possible solutions to the following error every time I try to run Transient stability Analysis in ETAP: TS calculation aborted due to max.initial load flow iteration reached at t =0.00 s The Load flow is unning is fine.
ReplyDeleteThank You.
Dear Katongo,
DeleteI have a problem Transient stability Analysis in ETAP. TS calculation aborted due to max.initial load flow iteration reached at t =0.00 s. The Load flow is running is fine. Do you solve your problem, you don't. Do you help me please!
Hi guys, I have a same problem (TS calculation aborted due to max.initial load flow iteration reached at t =0.00 s.) in the transient stability Analysis in ETAP. If you have any solution, can you help me, please? Thanks so much.
DeleteI am also faceing same problem (TS calculation aborted due to max.initial load flow iteration reached at t =0.00 s.) in the transient stability Analysis in ETAP. Need help..
DeleteI am also currently facing the same problem. I am able to run the load flow but when I try the transient analysis I am getting 'TS calculation aborted due to max initial load flow iteration reached at t=0.000sec'. Did any of you manage to solve this problem?
DeleteMy friend has a problem while running load flow. ETAP is automatically taking 80% of load though he has not entered any load factor. In case editor he has selected design load with 100% load factor. Is there any other global setting.
ReplyDeletei have it too, and my error was that i didnt feeding the bus with the generator (voltage control), without this the load of my sistem was too much, and the simulation crashed (bus with 30% of voltage!! ), check that or down your load
ReplyDeleteI have got an error in ETAP as " Harmonic calculation is aborted due fundamental load flow divergence "But I can run my load flow analysis.
ReplyDeletei am Accessing a network to determine its current state in terms of performance. Etap 7.0 Load flow Analyzer was used to model both the existing 330kV network consisting of forty-eight (48) buses, fifty-one (51) transmission lines and twenty (20) generating stations and the expanded network consist of seventy-nine (79) buses, eighty-six (86) transmission lines and thirty-three (33) generating stations. i segmented the load into percentages, but on running the load flow it could not go beyond 65%. its giving an error message the it was unable to converge due to the maximum number if iteration. please i need your help.
ReplyDeleteHi Dear Friends
ReplyDeleteI'm making a simple single phase harmonic study consisting a power grid, bus, cable and a single phase static load; the 3-phase systems works well for both Load Fload and Harmonics, but when I make it single phase only the load flow works. For Harmonics study it gives three following errors. I made the dummy buses and added several cables, transformers, breakers, etc and they did not help at all.
Error 2000: [Single phase Harmonics] Number of energized buses is less than two. Error 2001: [Single phase Harmonics] The system has no swing power grid or generators. Error 2002: [Single phase Harmonics] The system has no energized branches, such as cables, lines, and transformers, etc.
U MUST CHANGE GENERATOR SWING FROM OPTION OF GENERATOR
DeleteHi dear friends,
ReplyDeleteWhile running transient stability I get this message: TS calculation aborted due to initial voltage lower than the limit as 0.000 sec. Could you please help solving this.
many thank in advance
DeleteHELLO AS YOU ARE, I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, YOU COULD HELP ME WITH THE SOLUTION MY MAIL IS TJSM.1816@GMAIL.COM
I have the same problem
DeleteHi dear friends
ReplyDeleteWhile ruiining the transient stability analysis, I got this message: TS aborted due to initial voltage lower than the limit as 0.000 sec.

ReplyDeleteSolution for error "load flow calculation did not in the specified maximum number of iterations"
ReplyDeleteI have some problem with this when tried to simulate motor starting, the solution is try to check if there is any circuit loop or if there is any load that is connected to the transformer. and if you find it, insert a bus, then connect those loads to the transformer via that bus. It works for me.
ETAP 12.5.0 indicates the following error "Calculation process terminated abnormally - Exit code 9
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem but Exit code FF
